Roll Your Eyes to Fall Asleep
Scientifically, it is known as Eye Movement Desensitization Response or EMDR if you'd like to look it up. Long ago it was known as counting sheep, jumping over the moon, etc. It's so simple you might have a hard time believing it. Well, since there is nothing to lose while you're lying awake, give it a whirl! Just roll your eyes 5 times clockwise then 5 times counterclockwise. Do 4 or 5 sets...or less if you're already asleep!
For the analytic minded, this is how it works: The constant stream of thoughts that keep us awake can be filed away with eye movement. During the REM (rapid eye movement) phase of sleep, your brain files away fragmented thoughts into the appropriate locations for proper retrieval at appropriate times. Rolling your eyes jump starts the REM state and files those thoughts away and puts you to sleep.<view entire article>

When Isaac Newton watched an apple fall from a tree and decided to apply mathematics to the speed and time of falling fruit, he did more than discover the principles of calculus (Yes, this is the guy to blame for those high school courses you struggled through), he also gave us a particular view of how the universe worked. That model was a very mechanical view of a physical universe. The principles worked on so many levels like measuring the orbit of planets, which is a critical factor when sending a space ship to the moon... it's nice to know that the moon will be there when the astronauts arrive... however, Newtonian Physics left too many questions unanswered.
Along come Einstein, Bohr and the gang. All of a sudden they discover that we live in a universe of energy. They proceed to prove that what we perceive as matter is, in fact, energy and that our predictability models are flawed. It has become fashionable in pop culture to see these two models in conflict or competition. Not true. The models and mathematics of Newtonian physics still apply, but are now part of the bigger more complete picture of Quantum Physics, but Quantum Physics totally embraces Newtonian Physics.
The same can be said for Mechanism and Vitalism. Mechanism sees, like Newtonian Physics, a physical mechanical world and applies this cultural view to living matter...life. And like Newtonian Physics it leaves much of life and health as a mystery. Vitalism, which sees life as a systems-wide conscious, self-developing, self-adapting and self-healing system, does not deny the physical science of what we know about the human body, but frames it in a larger understanding and unique perspective of consciousness. Therefore, it follows that Mechanism has no room for Vitalism, but Vitalism totally embraces Mechanism.
Finally, logic would lead us to conclude that Medicine, which is primarily built on Mechanism and a Newtonian Physics world view, has no room for a Vitalism-based model like Chiropractic, but Chiropractic can embrace medicine as a part of its perspective and utilize it through referral when appropriate. The question at hand is who would you prefer to lead health care or specifically, who would you want to be the lead practitioner in your family's health...one who rejects and limits or one who has a perspective that is inclusive?

The season of gratitude should be all year long if we knew what was really good for us. We've been told to count our blessings everyday, but did you today? Do it with your prayers every night and/or every morning. Do it with your exercises, morning tall glass of water, or while brushing your teeth. Just pick a regular time of the day that you always do the same thing and add this very simple and profoundly, beneficial activity. Count things like your family, a roof, a full stomach, your ability to move around, see, hear, and speak. Then move onto the things that you would like in the future. Ask as if it's already been given and give thanks for it in the future. This is an awesomely rewarding mindset to gain.
Once you've gotten really good at being grateful for all of your blessings, why don't you consider giving thanks for more troubling things, your lessons in life? I am sure there have been times when you had initially thought that something that happened to you was not so good, even bad; and then you later realized that it wasn't so bad after all. It was actually pretty good.
A good measure of wisdom is how quickly we can see the good in each of life's events and conversely, how quickly we can the "negative", or the balance when we only see a benefit in something. Strangely ironic as it is; there is often just as much good in something as there is bad- a bitter sweetness if you will.
The longer I live, the more often and the more quickly I see this in just about everything. I suspect that it is truly in all things but my human emotions play tricks on some of the more severe scenarios for a while still.
I urge you to give it a whirl; start being thankful for your lessons, your trials, your errors. You may just find this the most beneficial and truthful thing to be thankful for in your life. Thank you for your time and may God continue to bless you and abundantly the rest of your days.

Mom runs the show. She takes care of just about everything important at least, but who is taking care of her? What would the world be like without her? Sad, I can tell you that for sure! Moms do so much with so little credit and, to make matters worse, they do it at the expense of themselves and their own health. Moms are notorious for putting everybody else in front of themselves.
It is time to change this eventually destructive mindset. Moms unite and appreciate your true worth! You are the keystone that holds it all together. You must be strong but to be strong you have to be healthy. Too bad you don't get healthy by happenstance; you have to work at it but, who's got the time?
You know how the flight attendants instruct us, "in the unlikely event of losing cabin pressure, put the oxygen mask on yourself first then on your child." Fortunately, you can do things with your family to help keep everybody healthier. Simple things like eating a little better. Buy that non-GMO off-brand that is a dollar more; choose the organic bananas and apples that are a little more but free from herbicides, pesticides and modified DNA.
Exercising together; we don't have to have ridiculous sports/work out schedules. How about family hikes in the hills. Pick a "mountain" and climb it, together. So far we've went from Memorial Park to the Aluminum City Terrace 5x and we're working our way up to "Bokay" hill. If you don't know, that's the hill on the Springdale side of the NewKenBridge. Walks around the lake at Northmoreland, bike rides, kayak adventures, family sled rides, there's plenty to do together.
Healthcare should be the most obvious thing to do together to stay well but its often overlooked, until it's a necessity. One of my favorite people ever was my "Uncle Jim". He could tell you that your house was on fire and make you laugh at the same time. One of his favorite jokes was something about how a thermos keeps its contents either hot or cold and the punch line was but "how do it know"!
That line sticks in my head and comes up in many different situations, such as how does your body know when and how to raise or lower its blood pressure, body temperature, cortisol level, blood glucose level, adrenal levels, etc.
These are great questions but they are largely ignored by western medicines men and women who prescribe drugs. These drugs decide for you how much and which chemicals are going to be in your system. These drugs were never intended to even be on earth in the first place, let alone in the delicate 60,000 chemical complex soup inside of your body. There is an innate intelligence beyond all of our "doctors" finite wisdom that does all of this "knowing" for us. Chiropractors recognize the innate wisdom of your bodies' ability to do this on its own. We work WITH that wisdom, not against it, and strive to allow the easiest pathway for this to occur. We remove the interference that causes the dysfunction in the first place. This can allow a natural balance, ebb and flow, of chemical balance as only your body knows how.<view entire article>
For some help, let's look at an old riddle: What is greater than God, more evil than the devil, rich people need it and poor people have it?
Nothing, unless you deeply love somebody else and then that person's nervous system would be more important than your own.
When it comes to body parts, within your own body, your own nervous system reigns supreme. We are not taught much about our nervous systems though are we? It is because we don't really know how they work. They are too complex and complicated for us, any of us, to fully understand. We do know that only 6-10% of what nerves do is relay pain signals. What happens in the other 90-94% of the nerve? Well we know that some kind of impulse (electrical, mental, wave, vibration, tone, etc.) travels along the pathways to and from every cell, tissue and organ in our bodies. The information directs the function of these cells. Science has not yet found the "soul" of this system or of our bodies, so to the scientist - there is no soul.
To the chiropractor, there is nothing more important than this SOUL. We have been releasing it from physical impingement for 119 years and watching it perform miracles every day in tens of thousands of offices all around the world.
To the medic, this is unscientific. Just because science doesn't have a clue on how this all works, doesn't mean it doesn't work. Chiropractor's will continue to work with this miraculous and mysterious nervous system and soul until science catches up with us and then agrees that you are better off unimpinged neurologically. It shouldn't have taken this long, 119 years, but will be patient.
For you though, you need to start taking care of your own system and to encourage those whom you love to start to take care of theirs. Doing so before it is too significantly damaged would be prudent, considering it is far easier and faster to correct relatively healthy nerves than severely compromised ones. Obviously.
If each of us would just get one more person to go to a chiropractor (of their choice) regularly, it would make a huge impact on our world. Imagine twice as many bright, healthy, fully functioning nervous systems and half as many sick, crooked, slowed, dulled, dumbed, compromised nervous systems out there. Nearly everybody knows about pinched nerves in the low back causing numb legs, feet and toes. Some even know that the best place to go to get to the root of the problem is to the chiropractor. How Many Pharmacies Do We Need? Really? The fact that we have one, or even two, on every corner of our small, economically challenged, and humble zip code, says a lot about how we are taking care of ourselves. They are there because they are making a profit, not for any other reason.

What if Your Child Only Functioned at 75%?
What if you only functioned at 50%? Chances are, somebody you know's heart is only functioning at 25% or less. How and why is this happening?
Well, it depends on who you ask. The highly trained Doctors of Chiropractic look deep to the nervous system when it comes to finding the reasons "why" any dysfunction may be occurring. Even electrical systems trouble shooting manual has the same Step 1: Check the power supply. Modern medicine skips this step in its high tech procedural method of putting a name (diagnosis) on a "condition." Medicine treats the symptoms, or the "what", of any dysfunction that may be occurring, but they fail to identify and target the source of the dysfunction-the "why". Your back may hurt because of vertebral subluxations; the medicine you take is only designed to treat the pain. It does not, however, do anything to fix the source of the problem: your misaligned spine.
The Doctor of Chiropractic looks to the power supply for a reason why. If you have 50% of the nerve supply reaching your bicep, you might only have half of the potential strength, stamina, or speed dexterity of that muscle available to you.
If your child had 75% of occipital nerve signals reaching the vascular muscles responsible for delivering oxygenated blood to the neurons of his/her frontal lobe, they might only be 75% as smart, cognizant, clear, witty, polite, or aware as they would be with 100% of the nerve supply getting through.
The really sad thing is that only 2 out of 10 children have ever been checked for nerve system damage in the biceps or their frontal lobes.

Sugar Equals Boogers
I've done the research and it is true. The more sugar your children eat, the more boogers they will produce. It makes perfect sense when you think about how our bodies work. Mucus is produced in excess for a variety of reasons, one of them being a detoxification process and another is a reaction to inflammation.
Too much of anything and we will do our best to get rid of it. Have you ever heard the recommended daily allowance of sugars in our diet? It is 25 grams/day and our children regularly, on average, consume 76.7 grams/day. That is over 3 times the recommended amount! It is in everything offered to children. Sadly, children are affected by an overload of sugar in many serious ways, the least of which being the overproduction of boogers.
- Neuroreceptor sites in our brain are negatively affected by sugar.
- Insulin receptor sites are overwhelmed by an abundance of sugar in the blood
- Fat storage sites are activated and glycogen and other toxins are readily taken up in fat cells in a state of hyperglycemia.
